Life at Cub Creek Foundation

The residency program at Cub Creek Foundation provides a unique opportunity for artists to gain hands-on experience with life as an artist. Our program provides housing, studio space, kilns and equipment, alongside access to materials and supplies. Unlike other structured programs which teach through instruction, classes and guided learning, the program at Cub Creek Foundation puts resident artists in charge of setting their own goals and determining their own schedule.

Development and growth take place through direct, hands-on experience within the program’s closely-knit community of artists and staff. The residency program at Cub Creek Foundation is best suited for those with good communication skills, a strong, self-motivated work ethic, an aptitude for rural living, and a willingness to work and live alongside others. Additionally, our residents are expected to participate in the day to day tasks of studio upkeep, cleaning and organizing, and wood preparation for firings.

Beyond working in the studio, many residents take the opportunity to slow down and immerse themselves in the program’s quiet, remote setting. Accessible small towns for groceries, supplies, and part time jobs can be found 20 minutes away. Larger cities can be reached in a 1.5 hr drive. For over a decade Cub Creek Foundation built many strong partnerships with local business, farms and restaurants, Colleges and Universities and other artists throughout the region. This community helps provide additional resources for our artists as they navigate their experience at Cub Creek.
