Kiln Rental Policies

All rentals require a mandatory in-person introduction and facility tour. For all firings CCF will supply clay wadding materials, firing leathers, firing rakes, wood splitter, tables, chairs, cleanup equipment such as grinders, grinding bricks, chisels, extension cords, and pyrometers. CCF will ensure the kiln is clean and prepared for firing.

The fee for wood can be determined after the lead artist and crew decide on how long they want to fire the kiln for and the type of wood to fire with. Estimate wood cost for a 7 (seven) day firing is $1,500 (mix of hard and soft woods). 

  • If a firing goes longer than expected and more wood is needed, there is an additional wood fee. 

  • If a firing goes shorter than expected, lead artist will be refunded a partial wood fee.

  • Wood cannot be stored for future firings on the property of CCF if the lead artist brings or harvests their own wood. 

Rental Options



#1: ( Experienced) No CCF instruction or wood

Each rental must have a designated lead artist who organizes the crew, shifts, wood preparations, and facilitates the firing from start to finish. The lead artist is responsible for knowledge of wood-firing kilns, making wadding and how to use kiln wash. Crew must pay for their wood from CCF or collect and prep their wood for their firing. No chainsaws allowed without proper protective gear. Guests may use the wood splitter. Guests may hire CCF’s chainsaw workers if needed. Wood costs are determined on the length of the firing. All artists sign a firing service agreement.

#2: (Intermediate) Includes CCF instruction. No CCF wood provided

After receiving dates of the crew's firing service. CCF organizes wood preparations dates for crew to participate, uses CCF truck and trailer for wood collection at the mill, prepares kiln, makes wadding, door mud, prepares kiln area for loading and unloading, creates firing schedule, and handles all communication between the crew. All artists sign a firing service agreement. 50% down payment is required. If the firing is cancelled, 25% of the down payment will be returned.

#3: (Beginner) Includes CCF instruction and CCF wood

CCF is responsible for handling all wood preparation. The crew arrives at a fully stocked kiln. Everything at the $2,100 cost included.

Anagama

(10 to 12 artists / 3.5 - 7 days firing)

Minigama

(2 to 4 artists / 3 to 5 days firing)
