Bio:
Ryan Lee Hereth was born September 8th, 1984 in Alexandria, Virginia. Ryan grew up tromping around the woods of northern Virginia...when there were still woods in northern Virginia. He remembers finding an early attachment to the ceramic material and recalls digging up clay from the creed bed behind his home and constructing basic coil and pinch pots. When he was 7, his family moved to England for almost two years and although very young, he recalls traveling to a number of historical castles and museums and believes this early exposure to the arts and architecture have greatly impacted his interests today. After graduating high school in Glastonbury, Connecticut, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University, and received a BFA.
Statement:
I am intrigued by the process of creating ceramic objects, and find that interaction with the natural material keeps me grounded in our fast paced culture. I enjoy both traditional and experimental forms and firing techniques. Although it is quite a humbling venture, the continual growth, understanding and relationship to my natural environment is a rewarding exploration.
